In May of 2013 I began to entertain the idea of cycling from Costa Rica to Honduras along the Pan-American highway through Nicaragua.
One of the inspirations was a good friend of mine from Texas who made this observation about me. She said, “Vince, Life experiences are your emotional gas take energizers.” It is true, adventures are my emotional gas tank; but if this is true, also true is roadblocks and challenges are my emotional de-energizers. The bike ride “Pedalling Against Poverty” bike ride is next November in Nicaragua.
Getting out of the gate has been quite the challenge; trying to find sponsors, getting promotional material, finding places to speak, fundraising. Getting the route we will travel along the Pan- American, and this is just the beginning.
At times, I get short blasts of unpleasant news about things I want to get done but just can’t. These are times when the wind comes out of sails and I want to quit or I begin to second guess my decisions. But thankfully unpleasant news, and a number of no’s can not keep me down.
This is going to be a wild and wacky ride, with more hills and bumps than the Pan American highway will ever throw at me. Circumstances may get me down but they will never keep me down.
On November the 8th, 2014, I will begin my ride and on November 18, I will cross the border from Nicaragua to Honduras.
